In 1895, Daniel Swarovski, a Bohemian creator, and visionary, moved to Tyrol in Austria, with his newly-invented machine for forming and polishing crystal jewelry stones. Swarovski has grown to be the world’s leading producer of precision-cut crystal for fashion, jewelry and more recently lighting, architecture, and interiors.
The company, however family-owned and operated by family members, has a global scope with about 25,000 employees, a presence in overhead 120 countries and a turnover of 2.38 billion Euros.
The corporation runs a crystal-themed gallery, Swarovski Kristallwelten (Crystal Worlds) at its original Wattens site (near Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria). The Crystal Worlds Centre fronted by a grass covered head, the mouth of which is a fountain. The grass covered Crystal Worlds Centre houses exhibitions related to, or inspired by, the crystals – but do not include descriptions of how the brilliant designs are made, produced or finished.
Swarovski work was recently exhibited at Asia's Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair based on the concept of a single continuous beam of fragmented light traveling through a crystal. Swarovski comprises two primary businesses, one producing and selling loose parts to the industry and the other creating design-driven products. Swarovski crystals become a necessary ingredient of international design. Since 1965 the company has also provided to the jewelry industry with genuine gemstones and created stones.
Displaying the creativity that lies at the heart of the company, Swarovski’s brand lines of accessories, jewelry, and home decor pieces are sold at more than 2,350 retail stores worldwide. The Swarovski Crystal Society has close to 300,000 members across the world, keen collectors of the well-known crystal statuettes. And in Wattens, Swarovski Kristallwelten, the multi-media museum, was opened in 1995 as a recognition of Swarovski’s world of innovation.
