An American women’s clothing retailer owned by Urban Outfitters and headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Anthropologie was founded by the current URBN chairman and president Richard Hayne, Anthropologie first opened in Wayne, Pennsylvania in 1982. In 1998, Anthropologie added a mail-order catalog and website. In 2009, the first international store opened in the Yorkville area of Toronto. Canadian stores now exist in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver as well.

In 2009 Anthropologie opened its first European store, located on Regent Street in London, followed by two additional UK outposts, located on King’s Road in Chelsea and in Edinburgh.
