Henry Sy’s fifth SM Supermall opened on Alabang-Zapote Road on 2 April 1995, the first the group built in southern Metro Manila. What has changed since concerns use rather than footprint. A renovation ran through March 2010, the mall re-launched in November 2012, and the one physical addition, the South Tower of 2017, brought business process outsourcing offices and parking rather than selling space.
Entertainment carries most of that turnover. Two Director’s Club cinemas opened on 24 April 2019, SM Game Park added bowling, billiards, archery and table tennis on 3 December 2021, UFC Gym followed on 18 June 2022, and the Events Hall opened on 11 October 2023. Sky Zone runs a trampoline park, and Kidzooona, Tom’s World, Toy Kingdom and Booksale sit alongside it.
Watches carry the inline mix further than apparel does. Swatch, Citizen, Pandora, Karat World, Unisilver, Watch Republic, Asprey Time and iWatch Straps & Batteries Center trade here, with Fossil, Parfois and Samsonite on accessories. Against that, the clothing line runs to the standard group roster of Bench, Penshoppe, Uniqlo, Surplus, CLN, Plains & Prints, Guess and Levi’s, which argues the property rather than the operator.
At 198,000 square meters and class A, Southmall sits among the larger assets in the group’s Metro Manila set. Ace Hardware, Our Home and Gintell cover home, St. Paul’s, National Book Store and Fully Booked cover books, and The Medical City Clinic operates a clinic on site.
