About Rack Room Shoes

Based in North Carolina Rack Room Shoes is an American footwear retailer. Rack Room operates over 450 stores in 34 states below the labels Rack Room Shoes and Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse. The chain was formerly headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Rack Room bought the company in the 1980s.

Rack Room was established in 1920 in Salisbury, North Carolina by Phil Levinson. His son-in-law, Mort Lerner took over the business. In 1984, the 22-store company was acquired by The Deichmann Group, a Germany- based shoe retailer. Modernization and new designs coupled with aggressive marketing catapulted Rack Room Shoes into wider recognition and fast growth.
In 1990, Rack Room Shoes had 100 stores. Four years later the number had doubled. The company relocated its United States headquarters to a massive, state-of-the-art facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. Over the next ten years, the Rack Room Shoes doubled in size. There are locations in 24 states from New Jersey to Florida and California borders.
Rack Room Shoes offers a wide selection of nationally recognized brands as well as a wide range of exclusive private brands made exclusively for Rack Room Shoes. Innovative styles and exceptional values have made Rack Room Shoes satisfied, loyal, repeat customers.
