Uniqlo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer, and retailer. In 1984, Fast Retailing, headed by Tadashi Yanai, opened the first Uniqlo store in Hiroshima, Japan. Since then, the brand has evolved from a chain of roadside stores to an international leader in style, quality, and fun. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., and since November 2005 is listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Fast Retailing Co. Ltd, in April 2008 established a joint venture company with Wing Tai Retail Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, to facilitate the entry of its casual wear Uniqlo brand into the Singapore market. The first Uniqlo store in Singapore was opened in April 2009. Wing Tai Retail Pte. Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Singapore-listed property developer and lifestyle company Wing Tai Holdings Limited Singapore. The venture had opened a total of 12 stores by the end of August 2013, including one large-format store in Singapore's lively Orchard Road shopping district.

Singapore is Uniqlo’s fourth base in Asia following the brand’s success in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea. Although Uniqlo started as a suburban chain, it now has more than 800 stores worldwide, many in urban centers around the globe. Currently, there are 18 Uniqlo stores in Singapore.
