Stanford Shopping Center is a 1.32 million square foot open-air luxury lifestyle center in Palo Alto, owned and operated by Simon Property Group on land leased from Stanford University. The property’s four-anchor department store structure of Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom is unmatched in any comparable open-air format in the United States: the simultaneous presence of Neiman Marcus alongside three full-line department stores positions the center at the premium-to-luxury tier in a format that is architecturally open-air rather than enclosed. The Stanford University adjacency and the Palo Alto residential catchment produce a consumer profile dominated by technology executives, Stanford faculty, and the professional households of the western Peninsula corridor.
The luxury register reflects the Palo Alto consumer’s purchasing power. CHANEL Fragrance and Beauty, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Celine, Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Rolex, IWC, Tiffany & Co., ZEGNA, Max Mara, and Giorgio Armani collectively represent a first-tier luxury concentration that is one of the two deepest in Silicon Valley alongside Westfield Valley Fair. The open-air format distinguishes the shopping experience: the Stanford consumer who finds the enclosed format at Valley Fair less appealing has an alternative at comparable brand depth in a walkable outdoor environment.
The specialty grocery and lifestyle component is a defining differentiator. Schaub’s Meat Fish and Poultry and Sigona’s Farmers Market occupy specialty grocery positions that no chain format can replicate, serving the Palo Alto food culture that indexes toward artisanal and local sourcing. Barry’s Bootcamp, SoulCycle, and Peloton anchor the premium fitness tier. Arc’teryx and The North Face serve the outdoor performance category. Vuori, lululemon, Alo Yoga, and On Running cover the premium activewear register.
Stanford Shopping Center’s competitive position is built on format exclusivity and the Stanford/Palo Alto location premium. No comparable open-air luxury property exists on the Peninsula between San Francisco and San Jose. Stanford’s four-anchor luxury structure, specialty grocery, and premium fitness co-tenancy make it one of the most precisely calibrated retail environments in Silicon Valley for reaching the Palo Alto and Peninsula technology executive household.
Sit-down dining at the property includes Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, P.F. Chang's, PF Chang's China Bistro, Sushi Roku and True Food Kitchen. Quick options include Tender Greens, Chipotle, McDonald's, Pressed and Shake Shack.
