Lime Ridge Mall opened in 1981 at 999 Upper Wentworth Street in the Lime Ridge neighbourhood of Hamilton, Ontario, with approximately 75,500 sqm of gross leasable area and over 180 retail and service units. Primaris REIT acquired the property from Cadillac Fairview for $416 million in 2025 and now owns and manages it as the leading enclosed regional shopping centre for the Hamilton Mountain communities.
Hamilton Mountain, the elevated plateau above Hamilton’s historic lower city, accessed via the Mountain Access roads from the downtown, is home to the majority of Hamilton’s residential growth since the mid-twentieth century. The Mountain communities constitute a distinct and largely suburban residential catchment, with different commercial habits from the urban lower city. Lime Ridge Mall serves as the primary anchor for the Upper Wentworth commercial node that has grown into Hamilton Mountain’s leading retail corridor. H&M, American Eagle, and Old Navy are among the major mainstream fashion tenants; the former Hudson’s Bay anchor closed as part of the retailer’s 2025 national liquidation. A comprehensive food court serves the daily and weekly community retail needs. The Upper Wentworth Street commercial strip extending in both directions from the mall forms a comprehensive suburban retail district.
The Hamilton Mountain residential communities house approximately 200,000 residents in the catchment area, making it one of the larger suburban retail catchments in the Golden Horseshoe outside of the GTA proper. Upper Wentworth Street is Hamilton Mountain’s busiest commercial arterial, handling high traffic volumes from the residential communities spreading east and west along the Mountain plateau. Hamilton Street Railway bus service and the Mountain Access road network provide connectivity.
The Hamilton Mountain catchment’s residential scale and the Upper Wentworth commercial anchoring role give the property a stable community retail position, though it competes with the Mountain’s evolving strip commercial development.
