Bath & Body Works became a standalone public company when L Brands completed its separation into two independent entities in August 2021, spinning off Bath & Body Works Inc. under ticker BBWI on the New York Stock Exchange while Victoria’s Secret & Co. listed separately. Gina Boswell has served as CEO of Bath & Body Works Inc. since December 2022, succeeding Andrew Meslow and leading the company through its sustained high-margin growth as an independent entity. The Wexner family’s ownership stake substantially reduced following the L Brands separation.

Founded in 1990 in New Albany, Ohio as a single store in a strip shopping center, Bath & Body Works built its commercial position around affordable personal-care indulgence: shower gels, lotions, hand soaps, and body mists sold in signature fragrance collections refreshed seasonally, with the fall Harvest and winter Pocketbac seasonal programs becoming anchored consumer rituals. The candle category, initially marketed under the White Barn Candle Company sub-brand before full integration, grew from a secondary category to representing approximately one-third of total sales by the 2020s, with the three-wick candle format becoming one of the most gifted items in US specialty retail. Bath & Body Works reported total net sales of approximately $7.9 billion in fiscal year 2024 (ended February 1, 2025). The loyalty program, relaunched with an earned-points model in 2022, has accumulated more than 36 million active members, providing one of the largest fragrance-retail customer-data relationships in specialty beauty.

The brand’s distribution is concentrated in the United States and Canada as the two primary markets, with the UAE as the most developed international franchise market. For mall operators, Bath & Body Works is a Class A specialty personal-care anchor for regional and super-regional centers, typically occupying 1,500 to 2,500 square feet with a compact, high-density fragrance-merchandising layout that generates high sales productivity per square foot.
