A|X Armani Exchange is the most accessible label in Italian luxury group Giorgio Armani SpA’s portfolio, positioned as the streetwear-influenced entry tier alongside the higher-priced Giorgio Armani signature and Emporio Armani lines. The brand entered a new chapter following the death of Giorgio Armani, the iconic Italian designer who redefined modern elegance, passed away in September 2025 at the age of 91, with the Armani Foundation succession plan now guiding the group’s independence-first strategy.
A|X launched in 1991 in the United States under a manufacturing and distribution license with Simint, which Armani later brought in-house as part of a multi-decade strategy of canceling licenses to control quality and distribution. In February Armani unveiled a new brand strategy, revealing his decision to cease the Armani Collezioni and Armani Jeans brands and use only the Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani and A|X Armani Exchange monikers effective spring 2018, consolidating Armani Jeans into A|X to create a single streetwear-positioned label. In FY2024, the Armani Group reported consolidated net revenues of €2.3 billion, down 5% year-over-year at constant exchange rates and 6% at current exchange rates. Post-IFRS16 EBITDA reached €398M, down 24% YoY as the group absorbed restructuring costs and elevated investment. The Armani Group’s net cash and cash equivalents stood at €569.7 million at the end of 2024. Direct brand turnover including licensees reached approximately €4.5B in 2023, with the Americas contributing 21% of group revenues, Europe 49%, and Asia Pacific 21%.
A|X Armani Exchange operates approximately 270 stores across 31 countries and on the brand’s website, with the United States as its anchor market. Distribution combines owned retail, franchised stores in selected geographies, including the Reliance Brands Ltd. partnership in India, e-commerce, and wholesale presence inside multi-brand department stores. For mall operators, A|X fits the bridge segment between mainstream apparel and aspirational luxury, suited to Class A and tier-1 lifestyle centers as a sub-anchor or junior anchor adjacent to the full luxury wing rather than within it.
