Westfield Carousel

In October 2023, Westfield Carousel became the first suburban shopping centre in Perth to trial large-scale Friday night trading, a format experiment later narrowed to a smaller group of retailers, including Coles, Kmart and Woolworths, trading late every weeknight. Few Perth centres have tested extended-hours retail this directly.

The anchor stack reflects two waves of investment: a consolidated Myer store dating to the 1980s Boans takeover, and a David Jones added in a $350 million redevelopment completed in August 2018, the project that made Carousel Western Australia’s largest shopping centre. Kmart, added in a 1998 expansion, completes the discount tier beneath the department-store anchors.

Coles and Woolworths anchor grocery, and a refurbished 14-screen Hoyts cinema anchors entertainment following the 2018 works. JD Sports, Adidas and ASICS lead a sports-focused specialty register, with Uniqlo and H&M holding the volume fashion positions.

Within 600 metres of Cannington station and served by multiple Transperth bus routes, the centre draws across Perth’s south-east. For a brand assessing Perth, Carousel’s scale and its willingness to experiment with trading hours make it one of the market’s clearest bellwethers.
