Queensgate Shopping Centre

Queensgate Shopping Centre opened in 1982 in Peterborough city centre, Cambridgeshire, with approximately 77,600 sqm (835,000 sq ft) of gross leasable area as the leading enclosed retail destination for Peterborough and the Fenland corridor. The centre is owned by Invesco Real Estate and sits directly between the railway station and Cathedral Square, and is a key component of the Queensgate mixed-use area in central Peterborough.

Peterborough occupies a strategically significant commercial position at the junction of the East Coast Main Line and the A1(M) motorway. The approximately 40-minute East Coast Main Line service to London King’s Cross and the equivalent northward connection to Leeds and Edinburgh support Peterborough’s role as a logistics and distribution hub. Following the closure of both John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, Queensgate has redeveloped: Frasers and Sports Direct opened across 92,500 sq ft of the former John Lewis space in December 2025, and an eight-screen Odeon Luxe cinema with IMAX opened on a rooftop development at the end of 2024. Primark, River Island, Boots, New Look, TK Maxx, and Søstrene Grene are among the current tenant mix. The surrounding pedestrianised Long Causeway and Bridge Street provide the wider retail circuit. Queensgate Bus Station adjacent provides regional bus connectivity from across Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire.

Peterborough’s population of approximately 215,000 provides the immediate base. The Fenland catchment from March, Wisbech, Stamford, and Whittlesey extends the regional draw. The A1(M) connection and the East Coast Main Line collectively make Peterborough one of the most accessible regional centres in the East of England by both road and rail.

Invesco Real Estate has repositioned Queensgate around the new Frasers and Sports Direct anchors and the Odeon Luxe IMAX cinema, replacing the vacated department store anchors with a mix aimed at rebuilding footfall and dwell time in the city centre.
