About this mall

Main Taunus Zentrum opened in 1964 in Sulzbach, Taunus, on the western edge of the Frankfurt metropolitan region, with approximately 80,000 sqm of gross leasable area as one of Germany’s first major out-of-town shopping centres and for decades the standard-setting retail destination for the Rhine-Main affluent suburban catchment. The centre is owned by Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield as a flagship asset in the European portfolio and one of the most enduring and well-invested retail properties in Germany.

Main Taunus Zentrum’s 1964 opening — one of the earliest major enclosed retail centres in Germany — established the out-of-town destination shopping model for the West German middle class in a period when personal car ownership was expanding rapidly and suburban retail was an emerging commercial format. The centre’s continued investment and repositioning over six decades has maintained its position as the premium out-of-town retail destination for the Frankfurt metropolitan area’s most affluent western suburbs: Kronberg, Bad Homburg, Hofheim, Eschborn, and the broader Taunus residential catchment. The tenant mix reflects this prosperous catchment with an above-average proportion of premium fashion — Mango, Zara, Marc O’Polo — alongside the mainstream anchors. The A66 motorway connection provides direct access from Frankfurt and the Taunus communities. S-Bahn line S2 connects the centre to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in approximately 20 minutes.

The Taunus and western Frankfurt catchment, home to Germany’s highest concentration of high-net-worth households outside Munich, provides a consumer spending profile significantly above the German average. The S2 provides direct transit access from Frankfurt’s financial district. The A66 serves the western Frankfurt suburban belt from Wiesbaden and Mainz.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield manages Main Taunus Zentrum as its German flagship. The six-decade commercial heritage, the premium Taunus catchment, and the S-Bahn connection to Frankfurt’s financial district create a commercial position in the Rhine-Main out-of-town retail market that no competitor has replicated at equivalent scale or quality.
