Les Terrasses du Port opened in 2014 on Marseille’s regenerated Joliette waterfront, north of the Vieux-Port. At 61,000 sqm, it introduced a more premium enclosed retail format to central Marseille. The architecture includes outdoor terraces with sea views, though the main trading floors are interior. The centre is close to the cruise and ferry port infrastructure, which contributes a distinct tourist segment to its visitor mix.
The tenant mix is positioned a tier above standard Marseille retail. Contemporary French fashion is anchored by ba&sh, Sandro, Maje and The Kooples, alongside American Vintage, Jonak, G-Star Raw, Lacoste and Le Temps des Cerises. Michael Kors, BOSS and Karl Lagerfeld cover accessible luxury. Apple operates a store. Beauty includes Sephora, L’Occitane en Provence, Rituals, Lush and Marionnaud. JD Sports and Courir handle sportswear. Maisons du Monde covers home. Daily Monop’ provides grocery convenience. Kusmi Tea and Le Monde du Macaron represent the specialist food offer.
Tram line T2 connects the centre to the Vieux-Port and the central city transit network. The catchment combines Marseille’s 1st and 2nd arrondissements with day visitors from across the Bouches-du-Rhône department and international tourists using the adjacent cruise port. The centre is managed by Hammerson.
Before Les Terrasses du Port opened, Marseille’s enclosed mall offer was concentrated in the northern and suburban zones, largely serving value and mid-market segments. The Joliette waterfront site created a new address in the city centre, attracting brands that had previously lacked an appropriate Marseille location. The premium tenant mix, combined with the port adjacency, differentiates it clearly from the city’s other retail centres.
