Bluewater opens its first new anchor since 1999. Next takes the former House of Fraser space with about 132,000 square feet.
Westfield London is the UK’s largest shopping centre by the retail-area measure used in this ranking.
The United Kingdom’s largest shopping centres remain the main destinations for brands seeking national-scale stores. In July 2026, Next tripled its footprint at Bluewater, while Lefties selected Liverpool ONE, Lakeside and Metrocentre for its first three UK locations. The list captures many of the destinations competing for the UK’s largest store formats and market entries.
This ranking is drawn from the Malls.com database and verified against operator disclosures. Enclosed shopping centres and large managed retail estates are included; open-air estates are identified in the table.

Britain is accommodating new retail demand inside its established regional destinations. No centre in the current top ten opened after Westfield Stratford City in 2011. Growth is arriving through reconfigured anchor boxes, store upsizes and new market entrants rather than a new generation of super-regional malls.
Anchor turnover is becoming more visible across the ranking. Bluewater’s former House of Fraser unit reopens as Next at roughly triple the retailer’s previous footprint in the same building. Metrocentre has handed a 50,000 square foot anchor unit to Lefties and its largest-ever New Look format in the same season. Lakeside follows with its own Lefties opening in October. The boxes assembled for one generation of anchors are being re-let to the next.
Ownership and management run through a short list of professional hands. Landsec manages Bluewater and St David’s and owns Liverpool ONE. Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield operates both Westfields. Hammerson holds the Bullring estate and Westquay. Pradera manages Trafford Centre and Lakeside for different owners, and Sovereign Centros manages Metrocentre and Cribbs Causeway. Leasing patterns repeat across the list because the counterparties repeat.
The entry-point logic is visible in the table. Brands entering the UK in 2026 are not scattering: Lefties’ first three addresses are all on this list.
Centres ranked by retail floorspace recorded in the Malls.com database, verified against operator disclosures and current management announcements as of July 29, 2026. Enclosed shopping centres and large managed retail estates are included; open-air estates are identified in the table. Retail space excludes offices, hotels, parking and announced future development. Ownership and management stated where confirmed; Metrocentre and St David’s ownership structures involve multi-party holdings and are listed by manager. The table is reviewed annually and updated when anchors or ownership change. Corrections: [email protected].
