Victoria’s Secret staged its first runway show in six years in New York, bringing back its iconic “Angels” format. Supermodel Gigi Hadid opened the event, walking the runway in a pink ensemble with wings, reminiscent of the brand’s classic look. Her sister, Bella Hadid, also returned to the catwalk after a prolonged absence due to Lyme disease, marking her second show since September’s Saint Laurent event. Familiar faces and debut appearances Longtime Victoria’s Secret ambassadors, including Irina Shayk, Eva Herzigova, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, and Adriana Lima, made their return to the runway. Joining them were new faces, such as Kate Moss and her daughter Lila, as well as plus-size model Ashley Graham, all making their debut for the lingerie brand. The event closed with Tyra Banks, who was an “Angel” from 1997 to 2005. The show was accompanied by live performances from major stars, including Lisa from Blackpink, singer Tyla, and the legendary Cher, further elevating the event’s status. Victoria’s Secret seeks reinvention after past criticism Victoria’s Secret canceled its traditional fashion shows in 2019 following backlash over promoting outdated beauty standards and lack of body diversity. Amid declining sales and share prices, L Brands announced plans to sell the company for $1.1 billion. However, in 2021, L Brands decided to retain the brand, spinning it off into a standalone company. The return of the fashion show marks an attempt to reposition Victoria’s Secret for a more inclusive and progressive future.
