About this mall

Minto opened in September 2013 in Mönchengladbach city centre, replacing the former Rheydter Straße retail cluster with a modern enclosed mall of approximately 45,000 sqm of gross leasable area as the principal retail investment in the revitalisation of the Lower Rhine city’s city-centre commercial core. The centre is owned by Deutsche EuroShop and managed by ECE Projektmanagement.

Mönchengladbach is a city of approximately 260,000 in the Lower Rhine region of North Rhine-Westphalia, historically known for its textile and garment manufacturing industry and currently home to Borussia Mönchengladbach, one of Germany’s most successful football clubs of the 1970s. The city’s commercial position sits between the larger Ruhr cities to the east and the Dutch border communities to the west, with Venlo (Netherlands) 25 kilometres away creating a cross-border commercial relationship in which Dutch consumers access German fashion and electronics retail. Minto provides H&M and comprehensive mainstream fashion and lifestyle retail in a modern enclosed format that replaced obsolescent 1970s retail infrastructure. The U-Bahn connections at Mönchengladbach Hauptbahnhof provide transit access from across the city.

Mönchengladbach’s population of approximately 260,000 provides the immediate base. The Lower Rhine catchment from Rheydt, Viersen, and the Dutch border communities of Venlo and Roermond supplements the regional draw. Cross-border Dutch consumer flows attracted by German retail add an international dimension. The A61 motorway provides north-south access.

Deutsche EuroShop and ECE manage Minto as the city-centre retail regeneration investment for a Lower Rhine city where the Dutch border proximity creates a structural cross-border commercial opportunity — Dutch consumers accessing German fashion, electronics, and large-format retail at the motorway-accessible catchment zone between the German Rhineland and the Dutch border cities.
