About this mall

Chinook Centre opened in 1960 as an open-air centre and was enclosed following a major redevelopment completed in the early 1970s, at 6455 Macleod Trail SW in the Fairview district of southwest Calgary, with approximately 128,000 sqm of gross leasable area and approximately 200 retail and service units. The property is owned and managed by Oxford Properties as Calgary’s premium super-regional shopping centre and the luxury retail leader in the Alberta market.

Chinook CTrain station on the Red Line (Route 201) sits at Macleod Trail SW adjacent to the property, providing LRT access from downtown Calgary and the south Calgary residential belt. The Macleod Trail corridor is Calgary’s primary north-south commercial artery, and Chinook’s position on this road captures both the planned shopping trip and the spontaneous highway-visible drop-in. Oxford has consistently positioned Chinook as Calgary’s most upscale enclosed mall, the anchor tenant roster includes premium fashion and luxury lifestyle brands that are not found at the city’s other super-regionals. The Cineplex multiplex, comprehensive food court, and dining circuit serve both the upscale shopping visitor and the south Calgary residential community. The Inditex cluster, H&M, and sport and lifestyle retailers complement the premium positioning across the retail floors.

The south Calgary catchment from Bridlewood to Acadia to Woodbine constitutes the primary residential base for Chinook, a community of approximately 350,000 residents in the southern planning areas. The CTrain Red Line extends this accessible catchment to downtown Calgary and the NE Calgary communities. The Macleod Trail corridor also draws from Lethbridge and the southern Alberta farming communities that come to Calgary for services and retail unavailable in smaller centres.

Oxford Properties manages Chinook Centre alongside Southcentre Mall, its other major Calgary asset. Chinook’s premium positioning in the south-central quadrant gives it strong retail productivity, supported by the CTrain connection and the Macleod Trail catchment anchor that draws from the densest residential belt in the quadrant.
