In Malaysia’s capital, Malaysia Grand Bazaar was opened, the first “artisanal” mall in the country. A total of over 200 retail spaces, which range in size from 10 square meters to 100 square meters, are located in the Bukit Bintang district. The complex occupies a total area of approximately 9,300 square meters.
Tenants at the Malaysia Grand Bazaar are emerging local entrepreneurs who can display their own products in addition to handicrafts and authentic local specialties.
The Malaysia Grand Bazaar is part of the Bukit Bintang City Centre’s Kuala Lumpur regeneration project along with other major projects, such as Lucentia Serviced Residences, The Stride strata office and Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport.
MGB provides a specialized platform that allows artisans, micro-brands, startups, and art entrepreneurs to expand their businesses in physical retail,” said BBCC Development Sdn Bhd CEO Low Thiam Chin.
Malaysia Grand Bazaar provides its tenants downtown space at affordable rates, as well as marketing support and fully-equipped retail space. Additionally, tenants are encouraged to sell their products through MGB on Amazon, Ebay, and Etsy.
The company said its goal is to become an incubator of local brands to reach a wider customer base by locating in a prestigious location that can attract tourists and locals alike.
