Sun Hung Kai Properties built apm as a vertical mall inside Millennium City, the Kwun Tong Road commercial cluster the developer has assembled in stages since the early 2000s. The name fuses am and pm, the promise behind the center’s founding concept: shops open until midnight and restaurants until 2am, a schedule built for a Hong Kong workforce with fewer free hours before dark.
Ten storeys and 600,000 sqft connect directly to Kwun Tong MTR station via four covered footbridges, letting apm capture transit traffic across a stretch of Kowloon East that had no large trendy mall before it opened in July 2005. Two express escalators cut travel time between the vertical levels, a workaround malls built on a single horizontal floor plate don’t need.
H&M, Uniqlo and MAC Cosmetics anchor the fashion and beauty floors, while an Apple Store, opened in 2016 as the brand’s sixth in Hong Kong, gives Kwun Tong a retail landmark residents previously had to travel to Tsim Sha Tsui or Central for. A B+ cinema under the Broadway circuit tops the building at level six.
The lobby level doubles as a performance venue, hosting singers, record labels and film promotions rather than functioning purely as circulation space. That programming, built around a young, trend-driven demographic from the mall’s earliest years, has kept apm relevant as Kwun Tong’s night-time leisure anchor two decades after its opening bet on hours no competing mall matched.
