Spanish company Inditex, best known for its Zara brand, plans to resume its activities gradually.
The difficult situation caused by the rapid spread of coronavirus in Spain has led to the suspension of many businesses, large and small. Inditex was no exception. To date, only 3 of the company’s 13 factories in Spain are operating. But they do not produce clothing, but medical products – masks, sanitary workers, etc. The resumption of Zara and Bershka tailoring is out of the question yet.
Nevertheless, such a step allowed Inditex not only to make its contribution to the fight against coronavirus but also to preserve production, which is called “on the go.” When the pandemic is over, the company will be able to return to regular working hours faster than its competitors.
It also became known that gradually begin to “come to life” and the company’s logistics centers in Spain, from where the goods then dispersed around the world. Inditex management begins to gradually increase its capacity. So far, the workers of the centers work no more than 4-5 hours a day. However, against the backdrop of the Spanish government’s announcement that the country has passed the peak of the epidemic, local businesses have hope for a rapid economic recovery. And again, when all is over, the company will have warehouses fully ready to work, while competitors will need time to rock out.
Unlike other retailers, such as the El Corte Ingles, H&M or Primark department store chain, Inditex paid Spanish workers their full wages throughout the quarantine. According to union leaders, this freed up government funds to provide additional assistance to those in need and will have a positive impact on the economic impact of the pandemic. In total, Inditex employs about 30,000 people in the domestic market.
