German grocery discounter Aldi continues to develop in the British market actively. The company plans to open five new supermarkets in the country within a month.
The new openings will occur as part of the company’s strategy to invest £400 million in the UK retail chain in 2023. Earlier openings took place in Southampton and Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire.
In early July, Aldi will launch new discounters in Norwich, Castle Donington in Leicestershire and Porthcawl in south Wales. The retailer is creating about 40 new jobs through each of the openings.
Employees in the new stores will earn wages ranging from 11.40 to 12.85 feet per hour, the company’s press office said.
According to George Brown, director of real estate for Aldi UK, demand for the retailer’s supermarkets has never been so high in the country. He estimates that more than two-thirds of British families shop at Aldi.
“However, there are still too many people for whom shopping at Aldi is not a convenient option, and we are committed to changing that by giving even more people access to our award-winning products at unbeatable prices,” Brown commented.
Earlier, “Which?” published research that ranked Aldi as the cheapest supermarket in the UK for the twelfth consecutive time, based on prices of 40 popular products. Second place in the ranking was taken by Lidl and third by Asda.
