Oasis

Oasis ceased physical retail operations on April 30, 2020 when the parent company entered administration during the United Kingdom’s first COVID-19 lockdown, resulting in 92 stores and 437 department store concessions closed and approximately 1,803 jobs lost. Hilco Capital acquired the brand’s stock and intellectual property from administrators Deloitte in May 2020, and on June 17, 2020 sold the online business and IP rights to Boohoo Group for £5.25 million in cash. Boohoo subsequently absorbed Oasis into its multi-brand digital platform alongside sister brand Warehouse (acquired in the same transaction) and Karen Millen, Coast, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, and Debenhams.

Oasis was founded in 1991 and grew through the 2000s as one of the four occasion-led womenswear brands operating under the Aurora Fashions umbrella (alongside Warehouse, Karen Millen, and Coast), with ultimate parent Iceland’s now-defunct Kaupthing Bank. Oasis and Warehouse generated combined direct online revenues of £46.8 million in the financial year ended February 2020. Boohoo integrated both brands’ e-commerce operations into its centralized digital infrastructure in the months following the acquisition, with no transferred head-office team or physical retail continuation.

Oasis has no current physical store presence in any market under Boohoo Group ownership. Pre-acquisition international franchise networks in Continental Europe, the Middle East, and Asia were largely wound down through 2020 to 2021. For mall operators, Oasis is no longer a viable tenant counterparty: the brand is exclusively digital under Boohoo Group, which does not pursue physical retail expansion across any of its acquired premium IP portfolio (Debenhams, Karen Millen, Coast, Oasis, Warehouse, Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis).
