Nike is launching the Nike Refurbished program, which aims to reduce waste and preserve the environment.
Recycling programs for used products are becoming more popular among many producers who pay special attention to environmental protection. Simultaneously, various programs and initiatives designed to reduce the amount of waste are being launched.
For example, Nike has announced the start of the Nike Refurbished program, through which visitors to the brand’s stores will be able to dispose of used shoes. In this case, things in a satisfactory condition will be restored and will again hit the shelves at a more affordable price. Refurbished sneakers will look as new ones as possible. Completely worn sneakers will be sent for recycling. Recycled products will be sold at Nike Factory, Nike Unite, and Nike Community stores.
According to the company’s official press release, Nike Refurbished program will be launched very shortly in 15 stores located in different shopping centers in the United States. Subsequently, the number of outlets taking part in it will steadily grow. By 2025, the manufacturer says, it plans to recycle and reclaim ten times as many products as it does today.
There is also a great deal of focus on increasing the volume of products that use recycled materials in their production. Today, the share of such goods represents 78% of total production volumes. But the company plans to bring this figure to 100%.
Nike is not the first company to actively explore the field of recycling. One of the first to work in this direction began with famous brands as The North Face, Patagonia, Nordstrom, and several others. Stores, where you can buy recycled clothing are opening worldwide and are eagerly visited by consumers who understand environmental initiatives’ importance.
