New transport retail in London

The Head of Retail for Transport for London (UK), Stuart Anderson, was at MAPIC last autumn to display the latest projects happening in the underground network.

The main reasons for him being at MAPIC are technology and people. He said it was an extremely interesting time and he had met with a number of agents who have offered him new retailers.

London’s underground does 1.2 billion journeys each year, and retail needs to become aware of the potential in this confined space.

There are several small independent retailers who need to work in a confined space, which means they have to adapt to the lack of space.

This segment has grown over the last few years and convenience is of the utmost importance. They are trying to figure out methods of bringing new technology and retailers to the underground rail networks. Surveys indicate that travellers are keen to have access to a range of brands and it is imperative that this need be satisfied.

Transport for London replaced London Regional Transport during 2000 and bears responsibility for the transport system of the Greater London area. It is looking for a second revenue stream which will optimise the experience of their customers.
