Westfield Tea Tree Plaza was built by Myer in 1970 as the anchor and developer of what was then Adelaide’s largest undeveloped non-industrial land parcel, and Myer has remained the centre’s department-store anchor since. In 2024, space from Myer’s reduced footprint was reallocated to JB Hi-Fi, Mecca and a combined Timezone and Zone Bowling venue.
Big W, Kmart and Target cover the discount-department tier, and Coles, Woolworths and Aldi anchor grocery. That reallocation of ex-department floorspace into electronics, beauty and entertainment is itself the format signal: Tea Tree Plaza is trading department-store depth for leisure and specialty breadth.
A $235 million upgrade first staged in 2018 elevated the centre’s Hoyts cinema to a “Lux” format and refreshed the entrance and food court. Krispy Kreme, Gong Cha and a wide F&B register reflect the centre’s role as the north-east’s primary shopping hub.
Serving the City of Tea Tree Gully and Adelaide’s north-east, the centre remains the area’s dominant retail destination fifty years after Myer built it. For a brand assessing Adelaide, the Myer floor reduction is a clear signal of which categories are gaining ground inside an anchor-led centre.
