Westfield Kotara anchors retail for Newcastle’s eastern suburbs from a floor space of roughly 82,400 square metres, built around a full-line department store and discount tier rather than a single dominant anchor. David Jones holds the premium position, with Kmart and Target covering the discount tier beneath it.
Coles and Woolworths anchor a full grocery floor, and JB Hi-Fi, Timezone and Event Cinemas extend the centre beyond retail into electronics and entertainment. That combination of two supermarkets, two discount department stores and one full-line anchor is a denser stack than most single-metro regional centres carry.
The specialty register runs premium for a regional centre, with Aje, General Pants Co. and Gorman in fashion alongside Bath & Body Works and L’OCCITANE EN PROVENCE in beauty. Adore Beauty and Le Creuset extend the register into higher-order categories not typical of a Newcastle-scale trade area.
Serving Newcastle’s eastern suburbs and the Lake Macquarie catchment, Kotara is one of the region’s two leading full-format centres, alongside the larger Charlestown Square. For a brand assessing the market, Kotara’s David Jones anchor and premium specialty mix provide its clearest point of differentiation.
