Opened in 1970 Southgate Centre had 65 stores and services in the site of a farmer’s field. Anchored by Woodwards, Woodwards Food Floor and The Bay, Southgate Centre served the quiet rural community and the city of Edmonton.
Southgate has undergone three major renovations and expansions in its forty years. These have almost tripled its size. Southgate Centre hosts some of the very best names in fashion.
With its 2009 expansion, Southgate has a million square feet of retail space, over 165 premier fashion stores and services including Edmonton’s largest Bay store, a full-service Canada Safeway, Aritzia, Zara, Michael Kors, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Coach, Inc., Brown’s and Edmonton’s only Restoration Hardware and Crate & Barrel. Apple opened a second store in Edmonton at Southgate Centre in 2010, and Edmonton’s first LEGO store in 2013. Thirty marquee stores were added as well as two sets of top-quality washrooms, an expansive food court, and two levels of parking. Southgate is owned and managed by Ivanhoe Cambridge. Southgate Centre is conveniently located adjacent to the Whitemud Freeway, across from a major transit bus station and the Southgate LRT station.
