Kaleidoscope at the Hub opened in downtown Des Moines in 1985 as an indoor shopping mall connected to the city’s skywalk system, with more than 30 stores and a food court.
The mall was largely vacated in 2019 and closed in 2023. Demolition of the building at 515 Walnut Street began in July 2023 to make way for a planned 33-story residential tower. The western part of the former complex remains in use as the Hub.
