The tendency to reuse things has been gaining momentum around the world for several years now. A more modern and environmentally conscious approach has already managed to change the fashion world. It is now taking over other areas of life.
For IKEA, ecology and the minimization of waste and pollution is a priority. Thus, the company plans to establish a closed cycle production facility by 2030. One of the steps in this direction is opening a physical store where only second-hand products will be sold.
Used and renovated furniture and interior items from IKEA will be available in a new store, which will open in Eskilstuna’s Swedish city. The store is scheduled to open by the end of 2020. The retailer’s retail space will be located in ReTuna shopping center. It is a rather unusual mall, as it became the world’s first second-hand shopping center.
According to Jonas Carleged, Ikea Sweden’s Director of Ecology: “If we are going to achieve our environmental goals. We need to challenge ourselves and test our ideas in practice”.
