According to the latest data, the Chinese company Huawei managed to bypass Samsung in the smartphone market and take first place in the rankings.
Huawei has long had ambitions to surpass Samsung as the world’s largest manufacturer of smartphones. And apparently, this is what happened between April and June of this year. During this period, the Chinese company sold 55.8 million devices, which is 5% less than the same period last year. It is noticeably higher than Samsung’s results – 53.7 million smartphones, which is 30% less year-on-year.
The situation, which took first place in the rankings of smartphone manufacturers not taken by Apple or Samsung, has developed for the first time in nine years. It shows how strong the position of Huawei (at least in the home market) is, despite the pressure exerted on the company.
The data was provided by analytical company Canalys, whose analysts believe that the Chinese company managed to achieve such remarkable results in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. They also think that for the same reason, Huawei will not be able to hold the first place for long. More than 70% of the company’s smartphones were sold in China, which is already recovering from the pandemic, unlike the countries that traditionally were the main markets of Samsung. The Chinese market has never played a significant role in the sales volumes of the South Korean company.
Meanwhile, representatives of Samsung said they expect noticeably better results in the next quarter. And this will be influenced not only by the gradual recovery of the world economy but also the beginning of sales of new flagship models.
