Moschino is the Italian fashion house founded in 1983 by designer Franco Moschino, owned and operated by Aeffe SpA, the Italian fashion holding company publicly listed on Borsa Italiana under controlling Ferretti family ownership. Aeffe also owns Alberta Ferretti, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, and licensing relationships across the contemporary fashion segment.
Franco Moschino, who had trained at Gianni Versace before launching his own line, established the brand as a deliberately provocative voice in 1980s Milanese fashion, blending high-fashion craftsmanship with pop-art iconography, irreverent slogans, and a counter-cultural attitude positioned against the seriousness of the contemporary luxury establishment. Following Franco Moschino’s death in 1994, the brand passed through Rossella Jardini’s creative direction (1994-2013), Jeremy Scott (2013-2023), and Davide Renne, whose appointment in 2023 ended tragically with his sudden death after eight days in the role. Adrian Appiolaza was named creative director in 2024, leading the brand through its first post-Scott collections. Aeffe SpA reported revenue of approximately €317 million in 2023 across its portfolio, with Moschino representing the largest contributor. The group faced operational pressure from the broader luxury slowdown and announced restructuring measures in 2024. Moschino suspended Russian operations in 2022.
Moschino operates approximately 100 standalone boutiques globally, supplemented by department store concessions, multi-brand luxury retailers, and a direct e-commerce business. The strongest markets include Italy, the United States, China, South Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. For mall operators, Moschino is a Class A specialty luxury tenant typically taking 120 to 250 square meters, fitting the contemporary luxury cluster alongside Marni, MSGM, Off-White, and similar Italian and international designer brands rather than apex-luxury wings. The brand’s pop-culture-influenced positioning attracts younger luxury consumers and is often placed adjacent to streetwear-luxury crossover brands rather than within heritage luxury sections.
