Tims China, which develops the international Popeyes restaurant brand in the Chinese market, has announced plans to invest in opening 1,700 new locations in the long term.
The first Popeyes restaurant opened in Shanghai in August. The company plans to expand the chain and launch around at least ten outlets in the city within a quarter. Plans to launch 1,700 restaurants are set to run for ten years.
“We are thrilled to open our first Popeyes restaurant in China, a milestone in our long-term strategy to establish a strong presence across the country leveraging Tims’ infrastructure and operating expertise,” said Yongchen Lu, Chief Executive Officer of Tims China.
“Despite a challenging overall macro-economic environment, food service retail sales have been a bright spot in China’s post-COVID recovery – one of the sectors that has rebounded strongly,” Lu added.
Tim China signed a cooperation agreement with the U.S. fast food giant in March 2023. Five months later, the first restaurant opened in a major city.
Popeyes is an international chain of fast-food restaurants specializing in chicken dishes. Founded in the United States, Popeyes operates a network of more than 3,000 locations worldwide.
