Apple plans to makeover 480 of its worldwide stores with a somewhat futuristic concept.
Technology behemoth Apple has plans to overhaul more than 400 of its stores worldwide, and the retailer has already introduced what it has up its sleeve via a new signature location in San Francisco, CA. All told, Apple plans to makeover 480 of its worldwide stores with a somewhat futuristic concept. Stores will be converted at a rate of between 5% and 10% of the company’s physical locations on the annual basis.
The recently-opened Apple Union Square will serve as inspiration for future stores. Union Square is located in a bustling section of San Francisco, and the retail and tech giant has delivered an exciting new concept that will fit right in with the tech-centric Silicon Valley area.
The new design was the result of a close collaboration between Apple executives and Foster + Partners, an innovative design firm based in London, England that has several offices spanning the globe. The internationally renowned firm has designed buildings on six different continents, and is known as one of the world’s most innovative architecture and integrated design practices.
Apple Union Square is a green-inspired store that features enormous 42-foot sliding glass doors – which also double as two-story windows – that open to one of San Francisco’s busiest retail hubs. The store is 100% powered by renewable energy, and also features a huge 6,000-inch video screen.
The stores signature Genius Bar has a different feel than those in the retailer’s other locations, and has even been re-christened as Genius Grove. Real living trees and an abundance of open space will welcome visitors who have taken the trek to purchase the new Apple products on their wish lists, as well as those simply hoping for a solution to their tech troubles via a visit to the Genius Grove.
The innovative design gives the store a town center-like feel, and sets a high standard for the future makeovers in the Apple pipeline. The new Apple store is located at 300 Post Street in San Francisco, not too far from the original San Francisco store on Stockton Street. The Stockton Street location opened back in 2004, while Apple’s very first retail stores opened back in 2001 in Fairfax County, VA, and Glendale, CA.
