SM City General Santos opened on August 10, 2012, becoming SM Prime’s first mall in the SOCCSKSARGEN region and the principal modern retail destination for the southern Mindanao tuna corridor. The property is located along San Miguel Street corner Santiago Boulevard in the Lagao District of General Santos, anchoring the city’s commercial center. General Santos is the largest city in SOCCSKSARGEN by population and the country’s primary tuna fishing port, with the surrounding Sarangani Bay supplying both the export and domestic tuna processing industries. The mall’s opening filled a long-standing retail capacity gap in southern Mindanao, where the nearest comparable property had been SM City Davao, approximately three hours north.

The three-level mall opened with 95,764 square meters of gross floor area and has since expanded to 125,245 square meters through subsequent phases. Anchor tenants include The SM Store, SM Supermarket, SM Cinema with four screens, Ace Hardware, Toy Kingdom, and Watsons. The food court and casual dining clusters accommodate the substantial workforce flow from the surrounding fish processing facilities, the Polomolok pineapple plantations, and the Sarangani provincial government offices.

SM City General Santos serves a catchment that includes General Santos, Polomolok, Tupi, Tampakan, the surrounding Sarangani Province coastal municipalities, and the southern Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat municipalities. Approximately 1.4 million residents live within a sixty-minute drive radius, with a broader regional catchment extending across all of SOCCSKSARGEN. The mall sits approximately fifteen minutes from General Santos International Airport, which has direct flights to Manila and Cebu, and serves the regional commerce flow that connects southern Mindanao with the broader Philippine economy.
