About this mall

Liberty Village Premium Outlets opened in 1981 in Flemington, New Jersey, and grew into a thriving luxury outlet destination carrying more than 40 designer stores, including Brooks Brothers, at its peak. The center worked in tandem with Flemington’s historic Main Street, with visitors often staying a full day or weekend to shop the outlets and eat and drink downtown.

Simon Property Group, which had branded the property “A Simon Center,” sold Liberty Village to a developer in 2019 after years of rising vacancy and physical deterioration through the mid-2010s. Demolition was actively underway as of reporting from December 2024, with the site expected to be redeveloped into a townhome community.

Our own store-presence data for this property, listing 16 brands as active, almost certainly reflects outdated information carried over from before the center’s closure and demolition; none of those listings should be treated as currently operating.

That first-generation-outlet-mall-to-demolished-residential-site trajectory reflects a broader pattern among 1980s-era outlet centers built around a “shop all day, stay the weekend” model: as newer, larger premium-outlet formats opened elsewhere, these older, smaller first-generation outlet malls lost their competitive position entirely rather than finding a viable smaller-scale niche.
