ION Orchard opened on 21 July 2009 at 2 Orchard Turn with 56,000 sqm of gross leasable area across eight retail floors, anchoring the northern entry point of Orchard Road at the junction of Scotts Road and Orchard Turn. The property is co-owned and managed by CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust (CICT) and Sun Hung Kai Properties as the principal Orchard Road gateway retail destination.

Orchard MRT station on the North-South Line and Thomson-East Coast Line is integrated directly into the basement levels B4 and B3 of ION Orchard, with the station concourse opening into the mall’s retail floors without any surface crossing required. This is the most intimate MRT-to-retail integration on Orchard Road: the transition from train platform to luxury retail takes approximately 30 seconds. The ION Orchard Luxury Hall on the lower floors houses Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Prada, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Dior, and more than 60 luxury and premium brands in a dedicated luxury corridor. Shaw Theatres operates the premium cinema on the upper floors. Above the retail podium, the ION Orchard tower rises 56 floors, and the ION Sky observation deck on the 55th and 56th floors is accessible to visitors, providing 360-degree views of Singapore that draw visitors who come for the observation experience and flow through the retail floors before and after.

Orchard Road receives the highest visitor density of any Singapore retail street, driven by approximately 19 million annual international tourists and the national shopping culture concentrated on this corridor. The North-South and Thomson-East Coast Line interchange at the Orchard station amplifies the transit-accessible catchment across both north-south and east-west Singapore residential belts.

CICT manages ION Orchard as the flagship of its Orchard Road portfolio. The MRT basement integration and ION Sky observation deck are capital investments in transit connectivity and place-making that generate visit occasions beyond conventional retail pull.
