Gateway Mall

Gateway Mall is the principal modern retail anchor of Araneta City, the historic Cubao commercial complex that the Araneta Group has developed since the 1950s on a substantial site at the convergence of EDSA and Aurora Boulevard. The mall opened on November 19, 2004, with approximately 150,000 square meters of gross leasable area distributed across six retail levels and the connected Araneta Coliseum, Smart Araneta Coliseum, and Novotel Manila Araneta City hotel. Gateway Mall is the contemporary face of the Araneta Group’s long-standing Cubao retail portfolio.

Anchor tenants include the Rustan’s Department Store, the Gateway Supermarket, Toys R Us, Marks & Spencer, the Gateway Cinema with several premium screens, and a substantial dining cluster on the upper levels. The mall layout uses an enclosed format with multiple atriums and the connection bridge to Smart Araneta Coliseum, the Philippines’ largest indoor arena hosting concerts, sporting events, and the annual Filipinas Heritage events. The Coliseum traffic adds substantial event-driven flow to the mall’s standard catchment.

Araneta City has been continuously redeveloped since the 1950s, with the original Ali Mall, Smart Araneta Coliseum, and the surrounding commercial buildings forming a dense urban district that anchors Cubao Quezon City. Gateway Mall sits adjacent to the MRT-3 Cubao station and the LRT-2 Cubao station, providing direct rail connectivity to two of Metro Manila’s three rapid transit lines. The substantial bus terminals along EDSA and Aurora Boulevard add further transit traffic, making Gateway Mall one of the highest-foot-traffic properties in Metro Manila.

Subsequent expansions include Gateway 2, opened in 2024 with additional retail and dining components, plus the connected Manila Doctors Hospital and the Araneta Center BPO Tower. The combined Araneta City development serves a catchment that includes Cubao, Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong, and the eastern Metro Manila corridor, an estimated 4.8 million residents within a thirty-minute travel radius using public transport.
