Centre Village Mall is a shopping mall in Lethbridge, AB. With the building area of about 373,000 sq ft it hosts around 35 stores and services providing a big parking. The main tenants are Zellers, Canadian Tire, Shoe Warehouse, A&W and others.
In 1970 Marathon Realty, recognizing the needs of a growing Lethbridge economy, committed to develop the Centre Village Mall shopping centre which has become a favoured shopping destination in southern Alberta. When the Centre opened, it offered then state of the art amenities such as climate controlled air conditioning, public washroom facilities and new to the city anchor tenants such as Simpson Sears, Shoppers Drug Mart, IGA and Macleods. Three of the Centre’s original tenants, including the Royal Bank, Smitty’s and Razors Edge, continue to offer improved locations to this day.
In 1988 Hobgoblin Holdings Limited recognized the Sears relocation as an opportunity to expand the shopping centre by adding the rapidly growing Canadian Tire store to a new convenient central city location. Upon purchasing the mall, Hobgoblin Holdings wasted no time updating the centre with the addition of a new entry treatment, skylights, new flooring and new landscaping throughout the concourse.
New tenants quickly joined the busy centre with a new 82,000 s.f. Zellers necessitating a 50,000 s.f. addition to former anchor space and new tenants such as Future Shop, Blockbuster Video and A&W setting up shop in Lethbridge at the thriving retail hub. Zellers continued its success in 2003 with an additional 20,000 s.f. to serve Lethbridge and area even better. The growing popularity of the Centre enticed even more tenants such as Warehouse One, Mark’s Work Wearhouse, Shoe Warehouse, easyhome and many other independent retailers to join the growing retail Mecca.
In 2006 Anthem Properties, a development company from Vancouver, saw the potential of Lethbridge and Centre Village Mall and purchased the property from Hobgoblin Holdings. Anthem has further built on the cornerstone property by serving up newly renovated washrooms, creating a bright open concourse with luxurious leather seating and serving up more independent retailers to the mix.
