September 2007, the shopping mall "Düsseldorf Arcaden" opened on the site of the former freight depot in Bilk. Right next to the train station Düsseldorf-Bilk, about 120 shops are arranged on three floors. The spectrum includes grocers, clothing stores, a large electronics retailer, phone companies, a pharmacy, restaurants and a variety of service providers. The 2-storey shopping center is divided into about 112 retail outlets. The centre's anchors include C&A, H&M, Aldi, Kaiser’s and Media Markt, as well as Elixia Vitalclub, an exclusive three-level, 21,500-square-foot (2,000 m2) wellness centre.
Resting areas with benches and sofas are available throughout the center. Apart from the shopping mall, the building complex includes a new public swimming pool, a community center, a branch of the city library and an 850-space parking garage.
The Düsseldorf Bilk Arcaden shopping center lie at the interface of the densely populated neighborhoods Bilk, about one kilometer south of the Königsallee.
The arcades are immediately adjacent to the Bilker S-Bahn station. The mall is also served by several bus and tram lines.
