Located in Oberhausen-Germany, 40 kilometres north of Dusseldorf, CentrO is one of Germany's largest and most successful shopping centres, with a wide range fashion, entertainment and dining options. The brick facade is in keeping with the traditional architecture of the Ruhr region. Over 2.5 million bricks were used for the front façade of the shopping centre alone. The generous glass areas, sophisticated steel structures and almost 16,000 m2 of natural stone floors spread a warm and friendly atmosphere within the mall. Light and warmth floods into the centre through almost 20,000 m2 of glass while approximately 11,000 lamps light up the mall after dusk.
Upon entering the shopping centre, the first thing visitors notice is the lush tropical and subtropical vegetation. Large palm trees, some more than twelve metres in height, line the various “shopping avenues”. The entry halls and paths to the mall are decorated with deciduous trees from southern regions such as weeping figs and black olives. The roof of the shopping centre is also covered by nearly 19,000 m² of lawns and blooming plants.
The shopping centre offers easy access to visitors via 11 entrances and 7 lifts as well as numerous escalators and staircases. Access to the local public transport system is comfortable
as well.
The center's area is divided into seven different areas (Marktplatz, Marktweg, Hauptstraße, Park Allee, Galerie, Oasenweg and the Coca-Cola Oase), which is useful for orientation purposes.
Restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and discotheques can be found along the 400 m Promenade. It is located on the specially designed waterfront between the shopping centre and the family leisure park.
