Other Whole Foods stores in SF continue to operate.
Grocery retailer Whole Foods has decided to close its San Francisco flagship store one year after opening. The company’s press office said that the Whole Foods supermarket at Trinity Place on Market St. officially closed on April 11, 2023.
“To ensure the safety of our employees, we made the difficult decision to close the store at Trinity for the time being. In a statement, “All team members will be relocated to one of our nearby stores,” commented a Whole Foods Market spokesperson.
It is noted that the retailer may reopen a flagship store in San Francisco in the future, but details regarding the company’s plans were not given. “If we feel we can keep our employees safe in the store, we will consider reopening our store in Trinity,” the company added.
Whole Foods also did not disclose the reason for closing the store. Last fall, it was reported that the supermarket was suffering from many thefts and “hostile people.”
The 65,000-square-foot store opened at Trinity Place in May 2022. Providing an expanded selection of groceries, wines and craft beers from local companies, it had the status of the chain’s flagship supermarket. Other Whole Foods stores in San Francisco continue to operate.
