Detroit is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the largest city on the United States–Canada border. It is a primary business, cultural, financial and transportation center in the Metro Detroit area, a region of 5.3 million people. Downtown Detroit's population of young professionals is growing and retail is expanding. Loads of local shopping options include high-brow and low-brow stores, along with food offerings should you need a drink or a bite along the way. Check out the wide variety at places like Eastern Market or Dearborn. Outside of the Renaissance Center, very little large-scale shopping can be found within Detroit's city limits, although retail development is picking up. An abundance of major shopping malls exist in the surrounding suburbs.
