Thanks to a specially launched platform, customers will buy the brand’s refurbished clothing and gear at discounted prices.
The American outdoor lifestyle brand has announced that it intends to transform its approach to doing business and create a cyclical business model. Such models are based on concern for the environment and reduce the number of goods thrown into landfills by introducing various ways to reuse them.
For The North Face, the first step toward an entirely cyclical business model was launching a resale platform called The North Face Renewed. Thanks to the new service, the brand’s clothing will be “salvaged from landfills” to the maximum extent possible. They will be repaired, refurbished, and resold, while unsuitable resale items will be sent for complete recycling.
Buyers who do not have access to recycled items will thus support the environmental initiative and buy relatively expensive clothes and equipment at a reduced price.
The North Face Renewed will be launched as a pilot project in Germany on May 4. If the experiment goes well, the geography of the platform will eventually be expanded.
Besides, to commemorate Earth Day, April 22, The North Face has also pledged to ensure that 100 percent of its most used materials for clothing are recyclable and renewable by 2025.
The plans presented cover a five-year development period for The North Face's retail business.
The North Face will increase the size of its flagship store in London by a third.
