M1 Limited (M1) was formed in August 1994 to enter the rapidly expanding mobile telecommunications market in Singapore. In May 1995, we won the license to operate Singapore’s second cellular telephone service as well as a radio paging service. Both services were launched on 1 April 1997 when the former monopoly ended. Today it is second mobile operator after SingTel.
M1 is listed on the Singapore Exchange, and the principal shareholders are Axiata Investments (Singapore) Limited, Keppel Telecoms Pte Ltd, and SPH Multimedia Private Limited.As at end-February 2013, major shareholders include Keppel Telecoms (19.55%), SPH Multimedia (13.60%), and Axiata Investments (29.01%). Institutional and public investors own the remaining shares.
It offers a suite of mobile voice- and data communication services over its 2G/3G/3.5G/4G network, including international call services to both mobile- and fixed-line customers. The company also launched Singapore’s first mobile broadband services in 2006, named M1 Broadband, and introduced fixed broadband services in 2008. In 2010, it launched Singapore’s first fiber broadband service.
