About this mall

The Bloc is an 800,000 square foot mixed-use complex in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, at the intersection of 7th Street and Flower Street, directly connected to the 7th Street/Metro Center transit station serving the A, B, D, and E Metro lines. The property was redeveloped from the former Macy’s Plaza and reopened in 2016 as an open-air mixed-use format combining an office tower, retail, dining, and the 496-room Sheraton Grand Los Angeles hotel. The 7th/Metro station connectivity gives The Bloc the highest transit-accessible footprint of any retail property in DTLA, drawing from the weekday office workforce in the Financial District and the growing residential population of the South Park and Historic Core neighborhoods.

The retail and entertainment configuration combines department store comparison shopping with a premium cinema anchor. Macy’s continues to occupy a major position in the complex, providing the comparison shopping draw for the DTLA market where department store options are extremely limited relative to the area’s workforce and residential population. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema anchors the entertainment component as a premium dine-in cinema format that drives evening and weekend traffic, adding a dedicated visit occasion that supplements the daytime office worker flow. Quick-service and fast-casual dining operators capture the lunch occasion from the surrounding Financial District towers.

The Bloc provides the primary transit-connected mixed-use format in the DTLA Financial District corridor. The combination of Macy’s department store, Alamo Drafthouse premium cinema, Sheraton Grand hotel traffic, and direct Metro station integration produces a multi-occasion visitor profile that covers the weekday office worker, the evening entertainment customer, and the hotel guest across a single property.
