Nordciti opened Marmelad on May 15, 2010 on Poshekhonskoye Shosse in Vologda, roughly ten minutes’ walk from the city center and close to both the rail and bus stations. It was Vologda’s first shopping center built at regional scale, opening more than 80 percent pre-leased and drawing an estimated 40,000 visitors from the city and surrounding oblast on its opening day.
At roughly 40,500 sqm, with more than 30,000 sqm leasable, Marmelad runs a Maxi hypermarket as its grocery anchor, with Sportmaster, which opened shortly after the main launch, as a sports anchor. O’stin, Sela, Colin’s and Acoola anchor the specialty fashion floor, alongside a seven-concept food court and parking for close to 800 cars.
DNS, M.Video and Xiaomi carry electronics, while Bookvoed and LEGO round out the entertainment and lifestyle categories. Nordciti built two sister properties under the same Marmelad brand: one in Cherepovets, on Oktyabrsky Prospekt, and a second in Veliky Novgorod, which opened in July under the same format, with all three operated together rather than independently.
That first-mover position in Vologda’s regional shopping-center market has held: local surveys the property’s own materials cite put Marmelad’s local approval rating above 80 percent among Vologda residents, a figure that reflects the absence of comparable regional-scale competition in the city rather than an unusually high bar cleared against direct rivals.
