Hessen-Center

Hessen-Center opened in 1971 in Frankfurt’s Borsigallee, in the Bergen-Enkheim district of eastern Frankfurt, with approximately 52,000 sqm of gross leasable area as one of West Germany’s early large-format suburban shopping centres and a community retail anchor for Frankfurt’s eastern residential communities. The centre is managed by ECE Projektmanagement.

Bergen-Enkheim is one of Frankfurt’s easternmost districts, incorporated into the city in 1977 and characterised by a mix of residential housing, the historic Bergen-Enkheim old town, and the eastern Frankfurt residential belt extending toward Bad Vilbel and the Wetterau. Hessen-Center’s 50+ year operating history has embedded it as the primary retail destination for eastern Frankfurt’s residential catchment. The centre’s community-format offer of H&M and service retail serves a catchment whose income profile reflects the mixed-residential character of eastern Frankfurt — more modest than the prosperous western suburbs but with above-average spending capacity relative to comparable-sized German cities due to the Frankfurt metropolitan area premium. The U7 U-Bahn connects Bergen-Enkheim to Frankfurt Hauptwache and the city-centre commercial circuit.

The eastern Frankfurt catchment from Bergen-Enkheim, Fechenheim, and Enkheim houses approximately 100,000 residents in the immediate draw zone. The U7 provides transit access to Frankfurt city centre in approximately 20 minutes. The A661 motorway provides road access to the Frankfurt metropolitan ring.

ECE manages Hessen-Center as a legacy suburban retail institution for eastern Frankfurt. The 50+ year operating continuity and the structural commercial role in serving a large eastern Frankfurt residential catchment that lacks equivalent alternative enclosed retail provision have created a community commercial identity that transcends individual tenant or format changes.
