City Centre South will provide over 560,000 sq ft of retail and leisure space including a new department store, multiplex cinema, seven large fashion units, 30 retail units, 9 family restaurants and over 1,000 parking spaces.
Coventry is the 10th largest City in England. With a population of 320,000 and a catchment of nearly 590,000 the city only retains 33% of its shopper population ranking it 38th on a national scale. Following careful planning and much deliberation Coventry City Council has formulated a vision that will alter perception significantly over the next 5 years. City Centre South will be a key catalyst for this step change.
At the same time as large scale public sector investment commences in local infrastructure (over £150m), the city’s student population is set to expand further (currently 58,000). Also not only is the retail offer to modernise and grow but office developments such as Phase 1 of Friargate (200,000 sq ft) are now on site.
Pre development activities are well underway for City Centre South. Planning will be submitted in early 2015 with start on site forecast for 2016 and completion approximately 2 years later (Autumn 2018).
