Leading sports fashion retailer JD Sports has added its store to the retail line-up at The Liberty Romford, the 110-shops pre-eminent shopping and lifestyle centre located in the heart of the town.
JD Sports, which had been placed in The Brewery centre, will take a new 10-year lease for a 1,576m2 (16,970 sq ft) unit. The retail space was part of the former BHS store and has been divided by the landlord into three stores. The JD Sports shop will have an 18-meter-long storefront onto The Liberty’s Main Mall. It’s expected the unit will be handed over in September for fit-out in time for Christmas trading.
The JD Sports signing comes hot on the heels of six other new lease and lease renewal deals at the object, which is owned by Cosgrave Property Group. Those recent deals involve two major anchor unit lease renewals for Boots and Next, and new leases for Holland & Barrett, Vision Express, 3 UK mobile phone operator and Krispy Kreme.
Zone A Rents in The Liberty Romford average approximately £200 / €228 psf. The shopping centre is anchored by Next, H&M, WH Smith, Boots, River Island, SuperDry, Topshop/Topman, Virgin Media and Footlocker among the extensive line-up.
Warren Thompson, the Group Acquisitions Manager for JD Sports, noted: “JD is pleased to be bringing its latest store concept to The Liberty Romford. This large unit in the heart of Romford will enable us to showcase the full JD product offering and store experience with our customers.”
“JD Sports has become the latest retailer to recognize the powerful fashion and lifestyle draw of The Liberty and its circa 20 million annual footfall and securing their tenancy is a great endorsement of the centre and its appeal. Interest by retailers in the centre been robust and reflects the regional destinational appeal of The Liberty Romford,” told Ronan Rooney, Head of Commercial Property for Cosgrave Property Group.
