The Odysseum concept is unique in this dynamic city and tourist destination, and ties into the wider regeneration program for the Southeast Montpellier region, playing the role of a unique, second city center.
Located in Montpellier, France, Odysseum Shopping Center is one of the most prestigious projects of Design International and its valuable partner DGLa. The project, which opened in September 2009, is part of a 140,000 sq m leisure and retail district that includes a Géant Casino Hypermarket, an Ikea Furniture Store, a Decathlon Sports Outlet, a Gaumont Multiplex Cinema, Vegapolis Ice Rink, Galilee Planetarium, Mare Nostrum Aquarium and a large range of shops and restaurants.
Location and accessibility
Located just 10 minutes via light rail from the Place de la Comédie, the center is served by its own light rail station and is likewise accessible by car from the A9 freeway.

Planning
The project scheme is based on a voyage of discovery. As a natural extension to the city centre, to which it is connected by a modern tramway, the innovative development is dedicated to the world of shopping and leisure. The lower level with its elliptic malls takes it’s inspiration from the Odyssey of Ulysses and features the Ithaca, Calypso and Sun plazas as well as the Islands of Cyclops and Circe. The upper level represents the future – taking it’s theme from the Milky Way and the Constellations. The modern design of this part of the centre reflects both the conquest of space and modern technology with materials such as stainless steel, mirror and aluminium while hi-tech lighting sculpts the spaces depending on the time of day.
